TO: STATE AGENCIES ADMINISTERING PLANS UNDER TITLES III AND VI AND TITLE VI GRANTEES

SUBJECT : NATIVE AMERICAN ELDER POPULATION

LEGAL AND RELATED REFERENCES : Section 202(a) of the Older Americans Act, As Amended

This memorandum disseminates a report developed by the Office for American Indians, Alaskan Native, and Native Hawaiian Programs of the Administration on Aging about the elder Native American population. The report is based primarily on the Bureau of the Census 1990 enumeration and includes both national and state data. The 1990 census enumeration continues to be the most comprehensive data about American Indians to date.

Information in the attached report will be useful to planners and decision makers involved in the field of aging.
