Information Memoranda

July 14, 1997

INFORMATION MEMORANDUM
AOA-IM-97-18

TO: STATE AND AREA AGENCIES ON AGING ADMINISTERING TITLES III AND VII OF THE OLDER AMERICANS ACT OF 1965, AS AMENDED

SUBJECT: TRANSMITTAL OF OLDER PERSONS WITH MOBILITY AND SELF-CARE LIMITATIONS: 1990

Attached is a statistical product which was developed by the National Aging Information Center on the subject of older persons with mobility and self-care limitations. This product is based on data from the 1990 Census of Population and Housing, Special Tabulation on Aging. It consists of a short paper with national and state-by-state tables as well as a national chart. In addition, for state agencies only, there is a similar table and color chart containing the data for that state and a description of the ranking of that state in relation to other states. Interested area agencies on aging may contact their state agency on aging or the National Aging Information Center for a copy of the table and chart for their state.

The Administration on Aging hopes that this information will be useful in your work on behalf of older persons.

Inquiries: Questions may be directed to Saadia Greenberg at 202-619-3429.

William F. Benson
Acting Principal Deputy
Assistant Secretary for Aging
