SUBJECT :  1999 Population Estimates of the 60+ Population for States and Territories

Purpose

This memorandum is to transmit current estimates of the population 60 years of age and older (60+) for the states and U.S. territories. The attached table presents the most recent population estimates available from the U.S. Bureau of the Census, and will be used by the Administration on Aging to determine formula grant awards during fiscal year 2001 under Title III of the Older Americans Act. Also attached, for your information, are several other population tables by age groups.

The figures for the 50 states and the District of Columbia are Census population estimates as of July 1, 1999. The figures for American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Palau, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands are 1999 mid-year Census estimates from the Census International Data Base.
