About the Technology Games
The Technology Games is the premier
competition and leading opportunity for developers of interactive health communication
applications (e.g., health Web sites, health-related CD-ROMs/DVDs) to gain valuable
feedback on and recognition for their innovative programs. This will be the fourth time
that the Partnerships Technology Games has brought together some of the leading developers
and vendors of interactive health applications to demonstrate their work to an expert
panel of judges and meeting participants, including health professionals, business
executives, policymakers, and prominent public figures.
Object of the Games
The primary objective of the Games is to promote development of high quality applications
by providing developers with valuable feedback from experts and potential users, and to
highlight high-quality applications.
The Games also serve to educate the public,
health professionals, purchasers of health services and products, and the media about the
variety of interactive applications available to improve health. The Games allow
developers to engage experts and conference attendees within the context of a friendly,
informal competition. Each participant will set up a computer and monitor and invite
people to "test drive" the applications. Up to two separate applications can be
entered into the Games per company/organization. If two applications are entered, it is
strongly encouraged that you provide two computers/monitors to display them simultaneously
on your table. Computer technicians will be available to assist Games participants with
their Internet connections if needed.
Ample time will be set aside during the
conference for attendees to try out the applications. A panel of experts in interactive
health communication will evaluate all entries, provide constructive feedback, and select
the outstanding entries. There will also be awards based on the popular vote of meeting
attendees. All winners of the Games and other entries will be featured on the Partnerships
2000 Web site.

Who Can Enter
Everyone is encouraged to enter the Games: companies, universities, nonprofit
organizations, public agencies, and individuals. Nonprofit organizations and public
agencies may register at a reduced rate. To encourage broad participation, only one table
per company or organization is allowed.

Types of
Applications
All kinds of interactive health communication applications that focus on consumers,
patients, caregivers, and/or health professionals are welcome. Applications that involve
any aspect of public health, clinical care, and consumer/preventive health are encouraged.
Types of suitable applications include:
- Health Information (e.g.,
general and "tailored" information applications that provide user-specific
information)
- Decision Support (e.g.,
shared clinical decisionmaking, guides for making health decisions)
- Peer and Emotional Support
(e.g.,
online support networks)
- Health Promotion and Disease
Prevention (e.g., beneficiary/employee wellness modules, health risk appraisals)
- Self-Care, Condition Management, and
Diagnostic Support (e.g., symptom management and triage, home health, remote
management of health conditions)
- Clinical Care Provider-Patient
Communication/Telemedicine (e.g., systems that facilitate clinical advice,
provider consultation, provider-patient e-mail)
- Patient Interfaces to Health Records
(e.g.,
patient centered electronic health records)
- Public Health/Population-Based
Applications (e.g., applications that provide public health-related
information/advice to the public or health professionals)
- Specific Population Groups
(e.g., applications for persons with physical disabilities, the elderly or children,
specific underserved populations)

Judging and

Judges and conference participants will be provided with general guidelines for evaluating an application. The

needs). Meeting participants will also cast their vote for the best applications.
