The Macular Degeneration Help Center provides accurate, timely and non-biased information on age-related macular degeneration (AMD). AMD is the leading cause of vision loss and legal blindness in people over age 60 in the US and is becoming an epidemic as the baby boom generation ages. Unique site features include a weekly news headline feature, a monthly newsletter, and an e-mail subscription service that notifies viewers when the Web site is updated. Respected researchers from around the country provide information about their research programs and an opportunity to participate in clinical trials. An extensive list of links connects the viewer when the site is updated. A popular segment of the site is "What Can I Do About It?" Viewers learn about their risk factors and how to control them. People are particularly interested in whether diet and vitamin supplements can protect them from AMD. The Help Center is a project of the Macular professionals dedicated to disseminating information on AMD, providing support and marshaling resources for a cure.
