The Complementary and Alternative Medicine Citation Index (CCI) is a Web accessible database comprising bibliographic citations to more than three decades of published research on complementary and alternative medicine systems and modalities. At a time of burgeoning interest in alternative medicine, the CCI provides a resource for healthcare professionals (and the general public) needing a reliable source of information concerning the efficacy and safety of complementary and alternative medicine techniques and remedies. The CCI runs on a Sun E3500 server with the Solaris 7 operating environment. It is an information retrieval application that uses Oracle8 as its database engine. Users may search for terms and phrases using Boolean operators or provide a natural language query which returns relevance ranks results using state of the art "vector space" document matching. With either approach, the results are displayed in the user's browser or alternatively, the user may choose from a variety of other output formats that are returned to the user as a compressed file.
