QuitNet

QuitNet, the Nation's largest smoking cessation program, helps 4,000 people address their nicotine addiction every day. Through QuitNet they get the mutual support and advice that is essential to success. QuitNet combines proven scientific methods with advances made possible by the Web. The site's around-the-clock support is available as long as needed, not for the fixed length of time offered by traditional counseling. Interactive tools help users understand their nicotine addiction, chose a quit date, and develop a personalized quitting plan. QuitNet tracks users over time and provides daily updates on lifetime and money saved since quitting smoking. Peer-to-peer support and a strong user community is fostered by on-site e-mail, buddy lists, live chat, instant messaging and busy forums that carry over 500 messages daily. An expert advice forum is staffed by qualified smoking cessation counselors, and a national database links online users to local cessation programs. Daily emailed "quit tips" that address quitting preparation and maintenance provide long-term support. An extensive library of cessation resources provides detailed quitting guides, daily tobacco news, and related Web links. QuitNet is a project of Join Together, a national resource for communities fighting substance abuse based at Boston University's School of Public Health.
