IRS Grants Tax Relief for April 20, 2004 Illinois Storm Victims

 

CHICAGO - The Internal Revenue Service today announced special tax relief for Illinois residents in the Presidential Disaster Area that was struck by severe storms and tornadoes beginning Apr. 20 and ending April 23, 2004.

The disaster area consists of four counties: Kankakee, LaSalle, Putnam and Will.

  • The FTD Penalty Waiver Period for employment and excise tax deposits is Apr. 20-30, 2004.
  • The Extension Period for returns and other tax payments is Apr. 20 - June 25, 2004.
  • Write “April Storms - IL” in red ink across the top of the tax return.  
  • Form 5500 filers should check Box D in Part 1 and attach a statement following the form’s instructions.

Individuals or businesses located in the disaster area – or taxpayers outside the area who were directly affected by this disaster should contact the IRS if they receive penalties for filing returns or paying taxes late.
