How to Locate a DocID

DocIDs can be obtained by opening the ASCII text version of the document. Within each ASCII file, GPO blows in header information. For example:

[Federal Register: February 11, 2004 (Volume 69, Number 28)]
[Notices]
[Page 6640-6641]
From the Federal Register Online via GPO Access [wais.access.gpo.gov]
[DOCID:fr11fe04-52]

The DocID is generally the last item in the header. Some examples include:

  • [DOCID:fr11fe04-52]
  • [DOCID: f:hjrnh98.wais]
  • [DOCID: f:h1eas.txt]

To input the DocID into the form, copy the information following DOCID: and input it into the appropriate box on the form.

How to Locate a CITE Number

CITE numbers can be obtained by opening the ASCII text version of the document. Within each ASCII file, GPO blows in header information. For example:

From the U.S. Code Online via GPO Access
[wais.access.gpo.gov]
[Laws in effect as of January 3, 2006]
[CITE: 42USC4321]

The CITE number is generally the last item in the header. Some examples include:

  • [CITE: 42USC4321]
  • [CITE: 12USC1464]
  • [CITE: 23USC104]

To input the CITE number into the form, copy the information following CITE: and input it into the appropriate box on the form.
