Ocean and Coastal Resources Program

The National Park System contains over 5,100 miles of beaches, as well as coral reefs, kelp forests, estuaries and other coastal zone jewels that attract over 75 million visitors each year.

New Feature

The Oceans Coastal Resources Program provides overall leadership and coordination in ocean resource stewardship. The Program supports coastal watershed assessment and management; coral reef, ocean and coastal habitat mapping, protection, and restoration; and marine fisheries and recreational uses management. The Program works closely with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, U.S. Geological Survey, other federal and state agencies, universities, and private organizations to fulfill needs for science-based management of ocean and coastal resources in national parks.

"Ocean: A body of water occupying about two-thirds of a world
made for man - who has no gills."
- Amborse Bierce
