Native American power customers

More than 300 Native American tribes are located in Western’s 15-state service territory, and 900 miles of transmission line cross reservations and tribal lands.
Nearly 100 tribes receive Federal hydropower allocations from Western.

We employ a full-time tribal liaison and conduct government-to-government consultations for National Environmental Policy Act and other actions. Tribes learn of energy development opportunities through Western and can take advantage of our resource planning assistance and other energy services.

The following power projects supply hydropower to Native American tribes:

New allocations processes:
The Power Marketing Initiative of Western’s Energy Management and Planning Program sets 20-year contract terms for each power project. When the contract term expires, Western evaluates future marketing options for individual projects in separate public processes.

Parker-Davis Project power contracts expire in 2008. Western’s Desert Southwest region is currently conducting the remarketing effort for this project.

The Desert Southwest office is also responsible for the Boulder Canyon Project contracts, which will expire in 2017.
