Mortality Due to Diabetic Ketoacidosis

Number of Deaths for Diabetic Ketoacidosis as Underlying Cause, United States, 1980-2001

Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is an acute complication of diabetes that can lead to coma and death. From 1980 to 2001, the number of deaths with DKA as the underlying cause was relatively stable. In 1980 there were 1772 deaths due to DKA and in 2001 there were 1871 deaths due to DKA.
