CDC's Diabetes Program - Data & Trends - Diabetes Complications for Lower Extremity Conditions - Number (in Thousands) of Hospital Discharges with Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) as First-Listed Diagnosis and Diabetes as Any-Listed Diagnosis, United States, 1980-2003

PAD is a costly and disabling condition that can lead to lower extremity amputation. The number of discharges for PAD increased from 1980 until 1997 and then decreased thereafter. In 2003, there were about 92,000 discharges for PAD.
