specific nav links Home News NOAA and DoD Receive Preservation Awards November 7—The Advisory Council on Historic Preservation met for its fall business meeting at the Old Post Office Pavilion in Washington, D.C. today and bestowed two preservation awards on the Department of Defense and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. The In Theater Heritage Training for Deploying Personnel Program, created by the Cultural Resources Program, Fort Drum, U.S. Department of the Army for the Department of Defense, received the Chairman’s Award for Federal Achievement in Historic Preservation. The program provides realistic training and educational tools for military personnel deploying to combat areas. Its creation brought together academic and military archaeological communities to provide the appropriate information and make it accessible to soldiers. The project in its current version has created four principal products:
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), U.S. Department of Commerce, received the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation’s Award for Federal Preserve America Accomplishment for its exemplary organizational efforts among government agencies in implementing the Administration’s Preserve America initiative. Inspired by the larger Preserve America initiative, NOAA developed a comprehensive program that includes:
