President George W. Bush recently announced his intention to appoint Minnesota Governor Timothy Pawlenty, Colorado Historic Preservation Expert Ann A. Pritzlaff, and Maryland Historic Preservation Expert Julia A. King to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP).

"These three individuals are outstanding additions to the ACHP," said John L. Nau, III, Chairman, ACHP. "Their unique expertise will fit well with the talents of the existing members of the Council as we move forward with implementation of the Preserve America initiative recently announced by President Bush."

Governor Timothy Pawlenty was appointed as the ACHP's gubernatorial representative. His appointment expires June 10, 2005, as he is serving out the ACHP term of former Arizona Gov. Jane Dee Hull.

Pawlenty was born and raised in South St. Paul, Minnesota, and currently resides in Eagen. He was elected governor in November 2002 after serving for 10 years in the Minnesota House of Representatives, including four years as House Majority Leader. Prior to that service, he was an Eagan City Councilman, Hennepin County prosecutor, and in private practice. He is an attorney and holds undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Minnesota.

Ann A. Pritzlaff is being appointed as a Historic Preservation Expert member of the ACHP. Her four-year appointment commences June 11, 2003.

Pritzlaff resides in Castle Rock, Colorado, and currently is Conference Coordinator for Colorado Preservation, Inc., where she works with the annual Saving Places conference, which is the largest statewide preservation conference in the nation. With a long preservation resume that includes a stint as Arizona State Historic Preservation Officer, she holds a bachelors degree from Scripps College and a masters degree in historic preservation from the University of Vermont.

Julia A. King is being appointed as an Historic Preservation Expert member of the ACHP. Her four-year appointment commences June 11, 2003.

King resides in St. Mary's City, Maryland, and currently is chief of archeological services at the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory, and also is an adjunct instructor of anthropology at St. Mary's College of Maryland. She has more than two decades experience as an archeologist, researcher, author, and educator. She holds a Ph.D. in American civilization from the University of Pennsylvania, a masters degree in anthropology from Florida State University, and a bachelors degree in anthropology and history from the College of William and Mary.

"We look forward to working with the new members and will celebrate their joining us at the third quarterly meeting of the ACHP to be held in New York City on August 15," said Nau.
