McLEAN, Va., December 16, 2008 — Michael A. Stokke has been named director of the Office of Congressional and Public Affairs for the Farm Credit Administration. He will lead FCA’s congressional liaison, media relations, and public affairs efforts. His appointment was effective December 8.

Mr. Stokke served as Deputy Chief of Staff to former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert from February 1998 to October 2007. He formulated political and communication agendas, managed press relations, and managed staff operations in two offices in Illinois and one in Washington, D.C. After leaving that position, he formed Prairie Strategies, a consulting firm based in Illinois, where he advised corporations and nonprofit organizations.

Prior to joining Speaker Hastert’s staff, Mr. Stokke served as Chief of Staff for the Office of the Speaker in the Illinois House of Representatives from 1995 to 1998. He served as Chief of Staff for Representative Thomas W. Ewing of Illinois from 1991 through 1994. From 1984 to 1991, he was Assistant Director of Personnel for the Office of the Governor of Illinois. In this capacity, he worked directly with the legislature and local elected officials. He also served as Assistant to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of Transportation from 1985 to 1987.

“Mike Stokke brings a wealth of experience from his years on Capitol Hill and his work in Illinois state government to this important position,” said Leland A. Strom, FCA Board Chairman and CEO. “I am very pleased that he will be a member of our management team.”
