IRS e-file Application

Do you have your login name, password and PIN for e-services? Have you applied to participate in IRS e-file? Have you reviewed and updated your IRS e-file application online? 

If not, here are some important notes and dates about IRS e-file for the 2007 Filing Season:

  • First, you need to complete the e-Services registration process to choose your login name, password, and signature PIN.  Access the Registered User Login Page: to begin this process.
  • You can apply to participate in IRS e-file by submitting an IRS e-file Application using the Internet.  You need to submit your application no later than 45 days before you intend to begin filing returns electronically. 

  • Review and update any changes since you last submitted your IRS e-file application using the Internet.  Note: Current IRS policy is for applicants to update their IRS e-file application information within 30 days of any changes.

  • Please review the stautes on your applications' summary page to ensure all is correct.

    1. The Providers Option(s) you will use must be Accepted;

    2. The EFIN status must be Active;

    3. The ETIN must be Active for the applicable provider option if you intend to   transmit your returns, those pepared by others, or test returns in the case of a Software Developer;

    4. The Firm/Organization Suitability Results and Overall Suitabilty Results must be Passed; and

    5. The Application Status must be Completed.

Important notes and dates about IRS e-file Application for the 2007 filing season are: 

  • Annual Acceptance Letters were issued in November 2006 to Electronic Return Originators, Intermediate Service Providers, and Reporting Agents

  • Providers are issued credentials each year in the form of an acceptance letter or a security letter that allows continued participation in IRS e-file.

  • Publication 3112 IRS e-file Application and Participation is available on our web site.


May, 2007 - Reporting Agent Principals and Responsible Officials, identified on the e-file Application, are provided the authority to access e-Services Transcript Delivery System (TDS) and Electronic Account Resolution (EAR). The ability to delegate this authority to other employees (Delegated Users) of the firm is also enabled. Further details can be obtained on News from RAF.
