Who received this letter?
Authorized IRS e-file Providers who are current participants, have passed suitability and can continue participation in IRS e-file.
If a credential letter for a specific EFIN is needed for some reason, can we call the e-help desk and have a copy of the letter mailed to us?
The publication 3112, IRS e-file Application and Participation states to call e-Help, toll free at 1-866-255-0654, to check your status. You can also access your application via eServices to obtain a copy of the summary page for proof of status.
If I am not a registered eServices user how do I register?
Go to the IRS website and click on the IRS.gov link. Scroll over to the left where the e-file log is and click on it. At the bottom of that link you will find a link titled: Information IRS e-file Providers, click on this link. This link will take you to the page for all tax related services and how to register for eService.
How often will Providers data be updated on the e-services website?
At least three times a year, directly after the due dates of 1040 yearly returns, the end of April, at the end of the filing season October 20, and at the end of each year in December.
How often should an ERO validate their status and is there a time for which it is good?
ERO should check in early October and December. You will need to have a computer and register if you have not already through eService.
How often should they go back to review the status of participation?
As often as three times a year. Directly after the due dates returns are to be filed timely at the end of April, after the filing season, the end of October and before the end of that tiling season December 5th.
What happens if the EFIN is suspended? Will formal notification then be given?
Yes, any one suspended will be notified though written correspondence.
What is the IRS plan to communicate this change to all state taxing authorities?
The IRS State Analyst has communicated this to the states through the MOA and the POA that gives them permission to download a complete consolidated state extract. They also have the option of querying a single EFIN/ETIN. This process is less painstaking than downloading a file from the Electronic Filing Bulletin Board or requesting proof of filing status from the EROs.
