The United States justice system is overloaded with juveniles who have committed violent crimes. While there are many programs designed to rehabilitate teenagers, other programs are trying to prevent youth crimes from happening in the first place. These school-based violence prevention programs have been proven effective at reducing violence, truancy, drug abuse, and delinquency.

Adolescents commit more than a million and a half crimes a year. In fact,
during the
past 3 decades, youth offenders were responsible for a fourth of all serious
violent
crimes involving weapons. An effective way of reducing youth crime is through
schoolbased
violence prevention programs. Analysis of these programs shows that they have
a track record of success at decreasing violence across all grades and socioeconomic
levels. In addition, these programs may reduce truancy and drug abuse, while
improving
