Some studies have also found that pallidotomy can improve gait and
balance and reduce the amount of levodopa people need, thus
reducing the dyskinesias and dystonia caused by the drugs. A
related surgical procedure, called thalamotomy, involves
destroying part of the brain's thalamus. Thalamotomy is useful
mainly to reduce tremor.
