Washington, DC – National Indian Gaming Commission recently issued Bulletin number 01-05, which outlines the goals and objectives of the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) in terms of Indian gaming revenues.  IGRA requires that net revenues from Indian gaming fund essential services such as education, health care, law enforcement and fire protection, water and sewer services, and elderly and child care.

When Congress passed IGRA in 1988, the original intent was to allow Tribal government gaming in an effort to encourage tribal economic development, tribal self-sufficiency and to build strong tribal governments.  The NIGC acknowledges that most tribal governments abide by the rules and regulations set out in IGRA, so this bulletin will reinforce existing practices.
