Washington, DC – National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) Chairman Phil Hogen announced today that 2004 gross gaming revenues for Indian gaming facilities nationwide are $19.4 billion, an increase of $2.6 billion or 15.3 percent over 2003 gross gaming revenues.
"The Indian gaming industry continues to grow at a steady pace," said Chairman Hogen. "This growth has allowed tribes to create jobs, continue economic development opportunities, build much needed infrastructure within their communities and provide services for their members." This industry also continues to provide jobs and opportunities for surrounding communities.
The $19.4 billion figure is based on audited financial statements received by the National Indian Gaming Commission for the 2004 fiscal year.
Additionally, the NIGC has broken down the $19.4 billion by the agency's six regions. Region V, which consists of Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas, reported a 43 percent increase in revenues over 2003 figures, which was the largest regional growth.
In addition to regional information, the NIGC has provided a historical comparison between facilities based on gaming revenue. Prior year numbers have been adjusted to reflect audit reports received subsequent to June 30 of the reporting year. Attached are two charts providing this data and a bar graph illustrating the growth in Indian gaming dating back to 1995.
The NIGC is an independent regulatory agency established within the Department of the Interior pursuant to the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988.
