HHS Assistant Secretary for Aging Josefina G. Carbonell will address the plenary session of the 12th Annual Conference of the National Hispanic Medical Association on Friday, April 18, 2008, in Washington, D.C. The theme of the Conference is “Healthcare Reform & Health Disparities: A Priority for Hispanic Communities.”
Assistant Secretary Carbonell will be joined by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Administrator Kerry Weems and Dr. Carolyn Clancy, director of the Agency for Healthcare Research & Quality.

Background:Assistant Secretary for Aging Carbonell will highlight Administration on Aging initiatives and partnerships within HHS and throughout the National Aging Services Network that are making a difference in the lives of Hispanic elders across the United States. She will also discuss efforts that are underway to develop consumer driven systems of home and community-based long term care that will meet the needs and preferences of Hispanic elders as well as other older populations.
The National Hispanic Medical Association is a non-profit association representing 36,000 licensed Hispanic physicians in the United States.
