National Indian Gaming Commission to Revise

Minimal Internal Control Standards

Washington, DC, January 8, 2004 -National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) Chairman Phil Hogen announced today that the Commission is seeking qualified tribal representatives to serve on a Standing Federal-Tribal MICS Advisory Committee, to assist the NIGC in formulating necessary amendment to the Commission's Minimal Internal Control Standards (MICS).

 

"The Advisory Committee will help to ensure the continued success of Indian gaming," NlGC Chairman Phil Hogen said. "Meaningful tribal input in the early stage of this process will facilitate the prompt attention needed to correct and update the MICS."

 

Minimal Internal Control Standards are the procedures used to protect the integrity of casino funds and games, and are vital to properly regulate gaming. The Advisory Committee will recommend and provide input regarding the formulation of proposed amendments necessary to correct deficiencies in the current MICS and to address new gaming technology methods.  Committee members will serve approximately two years.

 

Tribes desiring to recommend possible candidates must complete a nomination form, which is available on-line at www.nigc.gov

 

Nominations must be received no later than FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 9,2004.
