for Abstracts Abstracts must be received by August 27, 2004 ON-LINE SUBMISSION AT http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/steps/2004/abstract.html You are invited to submit an abstract for oral presentation, poster presentation, or roundtable discussion session at the inaugural Steps to a Healthier US Workforce Symposium. The Symposium will provide researchers, policymakers, practitioners, academics, employers, and labor leaders an opportunity to share their experiences with integrated and coordinated health promotion and protection programs and will assess the scientific and economic basis of these approaches. The conference planning committee is accepting abstracts on research or worksite programs. Both scientific and experiential platform and poster presentations will be an important part of the Symposium. Abstract Guidelines Participants may present existing research; describe effective or less than effective workplace practices and policies; present approaches to program evaluation; or propose new projects, concepts, or models. Please direct your presentation to a broad audience of stakeholders, practitioners, educators, policy makers, and researchers of diverse interests and disciplines. Potential topics include: good/best practices (e.g., case studies: how to initiate, integrate, and evaluate programs); economic analyses and issues; needs of specific employee or employer groups; and existing and future research (e.g., evaluation research, economic approaches, demonstration projects, improving health and ability to work, sustainability, etc.). Your abstract must address the following points, which will be rated in the selection process:
Abstract Submission Abstracts must be submitted via the internet at the following web address: http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/steps/2004/abstract.html Please limit the body of the abstract to 500 words or less. Include a title, author(s), organizational affiliation(s), and preference for poster or oral presentation. The abstracts of work selected for presentation will be included in the materials distributed to all meeting participants. Selection Approximately 20 abstracts will be selected for 15 minute oral presentations in a series of concurrent sessions at the conference. At least 60 abstracts will be selected for poster presentation. All oral presenters will be asked to submit a PowerPoint Presentation (no slides or overheads please) three weeks in advance of the meeting. Approximately 350 participants are expected. Limited travel funds may be available for selected presenters. The deadline for receipt of abstracts is August 27, 2004 and notices of acceptance will be sent by September 10, 2004.
