Constellation

The Center for Information Technology (CIT), in cooperation with NHLBI, is offering Constellation, which greatly simplifies the provisioning processes required to bring new employees and contractors onboard. Constellation extends NEDWeb functionality and automates the creation and maintenance of NIH Enterprise Directory (NED) entries, Active Directory (A/D) accounts, and Exchange mailboxes. The processes used also ensures the synchronization of data (including NIH IDs and userids/account names) between the NED, Active Directory, and Uninames. Provisioned ICs will have more capabilities to automate deregistration of departing employees and will provide a greater level of security to their employees for NIH enterprise applications.

Constellation also generates Remedy tickets for account activation, delete and transfers, for ICs that are provisioned.  This eliminates the need for them to maintain and incur the cost of an in house system for notifications These systems often do nothing if a person is removed from NED due to an automated process, which Constellation will do.

The following ICs participate in Constellation and several others are pending implementation: CIT, NCCAM, NCI, NCMHD, NCRR, NHLBI, NIA, NIAAA, NIBIB, NIEHS, NINDS, NINR, OD and ORS.
