An Employer Speaks

Regions Financial’s Jackson W. Moore: Critical Leadership

“Veterans are especially equipped to help businesses deal with change,” says Jackson W. Moore, Chairman and CEO, Regions Financial Corporation (NYSE:RF), headquartered in Birmingham, Alabama. Moore is the former Chairman of the Board, President and CEO of Union Planters Corporation, which merged with Regions Bank this year, creating one of the nation’s top 15 bank holding companies.

“In a crisis situation, you want people who perform effectively while providing leadership to other employees,” says Moore, a Vietnam-era captain in the U.S. Army and Army Reserves. “Today, every organization faces not only routine pressures, but unexpected occurrences that can quickly disrupt business as usual. When you’ve served in the military, you can persevere in getting work done regardless of challenges.”

Moore notes that veterans further help companies focus on safety and security procedures in the workplace. They have the training and understanding necessary to confront both cyber and physical threats.

“Our nationwide customers cumulatively trust us with billions of dollars,” says Moore, who first joined the Union Planters Board of Directors in 1986. “That responsibility calls for vigilance and scrupulous attention to detail along with absolute integrity. Those are all qualities I associate with vets.”
