Economic Stimulus Payments

In May, the Treasury will begin sending economic stimulus payments to more than 130 million households.  To receive a payment, a taxpayer must have a valid Social Security number, $3,000 of income and file a 2007 federal tax return.  The IRS will take care of the rest.  Eligible taxpayers will receive $300 to $600 if single or $600 to $1,200 if married filing jointly.  Millions of retirees, disabled veterans and low-wage earners who usually are exempt from filing a tax return must do so this year to receive a stimulus payment.

The LITC Program office will use this site to respond to your questions and post the most current information concerning the economic stimulus payments.

Economic Stimulus Payment Calculator - This online calculator  provides an estimate of the stimulus payment.  The taxpayer must answer a few questions and the calculator will do the rest.

Economic Stimulus Payment Schedule - Payments will start May 2.  The last two digits of the taxpayer’s Social Security number, and whether he or she opted for direct deposit or a paper check, will determine when the payment will be received.
