NIGC Performance and Accountability Report Available

Washington DC, November 8, 2007 — The National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC) announced that it’s Performance and Accountability Report, as filed in compliance with the Government Performance Results Act (GPRA) with the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) on September 30, 2007, is available to the public on its website www.nigc.gov.

Chairman Phil Hogen stated that “It is a pleasure to make available the NIGC’s first Performance and Accountability Report. The Report presents our accomplishments, goals, plans and financial forecast for Fiscal Years (FY) 2008 – 2012.” Chairman Hogen went on to say, “This Report highlights our accomplishments in high priority areas as well as challenges facing the NIGC. The performance section of this Report lists the key outcomes for each of our strategic goals. The performance and financial information described in this Report will create confidence in the NIGC as we work to fulfill our mission.”

This is the first such Report the NIGC has completed and submitted. The 109th Congress passed PL 109-221 which changed the funding formula for the NIGC and also required the NIGC to comply with GPRA and provide technical assistance to tribes.

The Report is a work in progress. With the Report now available the NIGC will continue the process of consulting and looking to the tribes and other interested constituencies to work together to improve the Report by making it relevant and useful to all. As changes are made to the Report, the posting on the website will be updated.

Chairman Hogen stated, “We look forward to working with all interested parties in the coming year to continue providing high quality service and maintaining the trust of tribal governments, tribal regulators, Indian gaming industry, and the public in the job we are doing.”

The Commission is accepting comments from all interested parties, and has set up a dedicated email address for GPRA related comments at gpra@nigc.gov
The NIGC is an independent regulatory agency established within the Department of the Interior pursuant to the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act of 1988.
