(Link to External Website)

The Banking Development Districts program provides incentives to financial institutions to locate in underserved communities. While an institution may see the long-term potential of branching into a newly served area, there is often the short-term concern that it may take a number of years before the branch can attract enough retail deposits to become viable. Incentives thus include municipal deposits at below-market rates and property tax exemptions, plus CRA consideration, workforce development and financial education assistance.
