IDES to Mail 1099s by January 31, 2009

Chicago (1/7) - Because unemployment benefits are subject to federal and state income tax, each year Form 1099-G is mailed by January 31st to those individuals who received UI benefits in the previous calendar year, using the last address on file. These documents may be forwarded, provided the Post Office has a current "mail forwarding" request on file.

Expanded Hours for Tele-serve

Chicago (12/26) - Tele-Serve is now available from 6:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, including holidays.  Calls to certify for benefits should be made on your scheduled call day, during the hours the system is available.   As long as you certify before 8:30 p.m. on your scheduled day, the timeliness of your benefit payment will not be affected.  >> News Release

If you are not able to call on your scheduled day, you may call on Thursday or Friday. Please allow two business days from the date you certify for your benefit payment to arrive.  >> more

Extended Unemployment Insurance Benefits in Illinois

EUC filingChicago - Under a new federal law that took effect on November 21st, up to 20 weeks’ worth of emergency unemployment compensation (EUC) benefits are now available for eligible individuals. Previously, individuals could only receive up to 13 weeks’ worth of EUC benefits.

Eligible individuals who exhausted their rights to EUC benefits, based on the previous 13-week maximum, can receive up to seven more weeks’ worth, for weeks beginning on or after November 23rd. IDES will notify those individuals of their certification days. The earliest possible certification day for those individuals will be December 8th. Payments will be made by debit card, unless the direct deposit option has been selected.

How do I file for the Extension? When your regular benefits run out, an extended benefits claim (EUC 08) will automatically be established in most cases. Once this claim is established, you will receive a "findings" letter indicating your eligibility for the extension. In some situations where your benefit year is ending, you will receive a notice to report to your local office to determine your entitlement to Extended Benefits. >> more
