Succession Planning

Overview

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) in 2001 developed the Succession Planning (SP) program in response to the retirement of a large group of knowledgeable employees. Guided by policy (pdf 150k), a steering committee and bureau devoted to SP began working with interested employees.

This program identifies qualified candidates through a voluntary application and nomination process. Once accepted, individuals are offered a variety of assessment and development tools including a 360 degree evaluation, mentoring, one on one coaching and networking opportunities with senior leadership.

This program has served as a model for other New Jersey state agencies as well as state transportation departments and public and private organizations throughout the United States. For additional information and guidance, please contact us.
