Interest in Hiring Vets is Growing

August 19, 2008
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

Adam Holton especially appreciates the importance of military veterans at work.

A former Marine Corps infantry officer and instructor, Morton is senior human resources manager based in Waukesha for GE Healthcare. And he's part of a companywide surge to recruit and support employees with military experience.

"Leveraging this talent pool makes us the best company in the world. And keeping us there is what we're interested in most," Holton said. "It makes us feel good, but at the end of the day, it makes us a great company, and that's why we're so interested in continuing to do it."

With Americans in armed conflicts abroad and employers more selective in their hiring, a push is on for employing military veterans.

More employers have signed up to recruit at a job fair for veterans today at the Bradley Center than showed up at a similar event four months ago, when the Milwaukee-area unemployment rate was a percentage point lower than it is now.
