Steps to a HealthierUS: RFA Guidance

This live, interactive broadcast will describe Health and Human Services
Secretary Tommy G. Thompsons new Steps to a HealthierUS initiative (Steps),
a new prevention initiative that focuses on reducing the burden of chronic
diseases and addressing the lifestyle choices that are responsible for some of
the leading causes of death and disability. This broadcast will help
applicants in preparing their responses to the Request for Applications
(RFA) for the Steps Program. Watch for the RFA to appear in the
Federal Register on May 9.

Goal
The goal of this broadcast is to provide potential applicants
with an understanding of the application process,
the eligibility criteria, the program requirements,
the desired contents of the applications, and how the
applications will be judged.
Objectives
After viewing this program, participants will be able to:
- Determine whether they are eligible to apply for funding,
- Understand what is expected from the Steps program,
- Prepare an application for funding,
- Define how the applications will be judged,
- Access HHS agency resources to prepare an application, and
- Obtain answers to questions regarding an application
Target Audience
This program is designed for all potential applicants for the Steps
program announcement; namely, the official state and local health
departments as well as Federally recognized tribal governments, and
the U.S. Territories.
