Testifies Before House Financial Services Committee
WASHINGTON — Deputy Comptroller for Community Affairs Barry Wides discussed the OCC's
involvement in and perspectives on governmental and private sector financial
literacy and education initiatives in testimony today before the House
Committee on Financial Services.
The Office of the Comptroller of
the Currency was created by Congress to charter national banks, to oversee a
nationwide system of banking institutions, and to assure that national banks
are safe and sound, competitive and profitable, and capable of serving the
