FY 2007 Recruitment Grant Award Recipients

The Teacher Quality Enhancement Grants Program for Recruitment (TQE-R) has awarded 9 new grants totaling $6,713,228 for the first year of a three-year grant period. The grant award performance period was effective October 1, 2007. Listed below are the grant award recipients and the amount awarded to each institution for FY 2007.

  1. Northern New Mexico Network for Rural Education (NM) - $1,109,172
  2. University of Hawaii (HI) - $489,339
  3. Rhode Island Department of Education (RI) - $1,095,228
  4. Midwestern State University - (TX) $944,664
  5. University of Massachusetts Dartmouth (MA) - $516,826
  6. Governors State University (IL) - $295,800
  7. Indiana State University (IN) - $180,730
  8. Black Hills Special Services Cooperative (SD) $1,095,630
  9. University of Montana (MT) - $985,839

The purpose of the TQE-R grants program is to afford an opportunity for states and partnerships receiving grants to address the challenge of America 's teacher shortage by making significant and lasting systemic changes in the way teachers are recruited, prepared, and supported to teach in high-need schools. The Department of Education's goal is to ensure that these changes lead to important improvements to the supply of well-trained and highly-qualified teachers.
