John E. Ryan

John E. (Jack) Ryan is Regional Director of the OTS Southeast Region, based in Atlanta, where he is responsible for the examination, supervision and regulation of the savings and loan industry in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Before being appointed Regional Director, Ryan served as Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Regulatory Officer of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston. He also served as its Acting President for a period of seven months in 1989. Ryan began his career as a commercial bank and bank holding company regulator for the Federal Reserve System. For eight years, he served as Director of the Division of Banking Supervision and Regulation for the Federal Reserve Board in Washington, D.C., reporting directly to the Board during the terms of Chairmen Burns, Miller and Volcker.

During 1994 and 1995, Ryan took a leave of absence from the OTS to serve as Acting CEO of the Resolution Trust Corporation.

The OTS Southeast Region is responsible for about 200 thrift institutions with aggregate total assets of about $290 billion.
