Item No.: 08
Site: Potable Water-
Violation: An air-gap was not provided at the fill for the passenger pool 1 expansion tank.
Recommendation: Provide an air gap at this location.

Site: Potable Water-
Violation: The potable water lines supplying the spa showers and toilets were not listed in the cross-connection control program.
Recommendation: Ensure that the cross-connection control program includes at minimum: a complete listing of cross-connections and the backflow prevention method/device for each, so that there is a match to the plumbing system component and location, and an inspection frequency. Ensure that air-gaps are included in the listing.

Site: Potable Water-
Violation: The potable water tank maintenance records did not consistently show that the free chlorine level was less than 5.0 ppm prior to putting the tanks back into service after disinfection.
Recommendation: Ensure that the disinfected parts of the system are flushed with potable water until the free residual halogen is at or below 5.00 mg/L (ppm).

Site: Swimming Pool-Kid's Paddle Pool
Violation: There was a large 24 inch diameter grate over the single 6-inch drain cover. Neither the drain cover nor the grate were anti-entrapment. The grate was not fastened down and could be removed without the use of tools.
Recommendation: Ensure that anti-entrapment drain covers or other drains that prevent entrapment hazards as specified in U.S. Consumer Product Safety Publication 363-009801 (dual drains/channel drains) are provided on swimming pools and whirlpool spas. Ensure that drain covers have either the plumbing/engineering approving organization stamp and flow rate affixed to the cover, or that a letter is maintained aboard the vessel certifying that the cover meets the safety requirements outlined in AMSE/ANSI A112.19.8M or an equivalent standard.

Site: Whirlpool/Spa-
Violation: There was a missing drain cover at each of the small whirlpools in the ladies' section of the spa and one missing from the small whirlpool in the men's section of the spa. The spa was closed at the time of the inspection. Per the staff, the drain covers were on order and the wrong drain covers were delivered.
Recommendation: Replace the missing drain covers.

Violation: A length of rope was not attached to the floatation device at the crew pool.
Recommendation: Ensure that an easy-access shepherd's hook and approved floatation device (with a length of line 1/2 the pool width or 16 m (50 feet)) is provided at a prominent location near each public swimming pool.

Site: Whirlpool/Spa-
Violation: There were 5 whirlpools on a single system for filtration and halogenation. Only one test was performed for free halogen residual for these whirlpools. The five whirlpools were Jacuzzi 1 and 2 each in the mens and women's sections of the spa.
Recommendation: Test the halogen residual for at least three of the whirlpool spas.

Site: Galley-Dry Storage
Violation: An 8 lb can of apple jelly was found dented on the side as well as the bottom seam.
Recommendation: Ensure that food packages are in good condition and protect the integrity of the contents so that the food is not exposed to adulteration or potential contaminants. Ensure that canned goods with dents on end or side seams are not used.

Violation: The set-up and discard times for the foods on time control were not on the time control plans.
Recommendation: Include the set-up and discard times on the time control plans.

Violation: The handles of two sets of tongs were in direct contact with food. This was corrected.
Recommendation: Ensure that food is protected from contamination by storing the food: (1) In a clean, dry location; (2) Where it is not exposed to splash, dust, or other contamination; and (3) At least 15 centimeters (6 inches) above the deck.

Violation: There were several food trays that were not provided with serving utensils.
Recommendation: Provide serving utensils for food trays on the buffet lines.

Violation: Loose, peeling sealant was noted on the non-food contact surface of the induction wok. This was corrected.
Recommendation: Ensure that nonfood-contact surfaces are free of unnecessary ledges, projections, and crevices, and designed and constructed to allow easy cleaning and to facilitate maintenance.

Violation: One of the side final rinse spray nozzles on the dishwasher was partially clogged.
Recommendation: Ensure the dishwasher is fully operational when in use.

Violation: The technical compartment above freezer #6 was soiled.
Recommendation: Ensure that nonfood-contact surfaces of equipment are kept free of an accumulation of dust, dirt, food residue, and other debris.

Violation: The post-mix carbonator cabinet was soiled with beverage syrup. The beverage syrup soaked through the cardboard boxes creating a foul odor. This was corrected.

Violation: The cabinet under the coffee station was soiled.

Violation: The hood cleaning cabinet was mounted on the bulkhead over a preparation counter. The chemical container was not spill-proof and could potentially spill out of the cabinet during rough seas.

Violation: The water temperature at the handwash station was measured at approximately 75 °F. This was corrected.
Recommendation: Ensure that handwashing sinks are equipped to provide water at a temperature of at least 43°C (110°F) through a mixing valve or combination faucet. For handwash sinks with electronic sensors, where the user cannot make temperature adjustments, ensure that the temperature provided to the user does not exceed 52°C (125°F).

Violation: The required "Wash Hands Often" sign was missing at the handwash station near the Tina 1200 thawing machines.
Recommendation: Ensure that a sign stating "WASH HANDS OFTEN" in a language that the food employees understand is posted over handwashing sinks.

Violation: A plastic material was noted at the bulkhead-deckhead juncture inside the walk-in refrigeration unit. This made cleaning difficult.

Violation: Adhesive remnants were noted on the bulkhead. According to the ship's staff, a glove dispenser was removed from this location.

Violation: A water leak was noted at the backflow preventer on the potable water line behind the juice machine. This was corrected.
Recommendation: Ensure that a plumbing system in a food area is maintained in good repair.

Recommendation: Replace the blown out lights.

Violation: It was not clear from the active monitoring logs that some of the inspections were conducted at night.
Recommendation: Ensure that the Integrated Pest Management Plan sets a schedule for periodic monitoring inspections including some at night.

Violation: Single use glove and sanitary wipes were not available in the toilet rooms.
Recommendation: Ensure that each station includes: (1) A changing table that is impervious, nonabsorbent, nontoxic, smooth, durable, and cleanable, and designed for diaper changing; (2) A supply of disposable diapers, gloves, wipes, table cleanser, and disinfectant; (3) An airtight, soiled-diaper receptacle; and (4) An adjacent handwashing station.

Site: Housekeeping-Spa Changing Rooms
Violation: There was no means to exit the toilet room areas without the use of bare hands.
Recommendation: Equip public toilet facilities so that persons exiting the toilet room are not required to handle the door with bare hands. This may be accomplished by methods such as locating paper towel dispensers at sinks and waste containers near the room door, installing mechanically operated doors, door removal, or other effective means.
