    Cruise Ship's Corrective Action Statement

Item No.: 08
Site: Potable Water-
Violation: The potable water fill line for the kid's pool was striped green and not blue.
Recommendation: Ensure that potable water piping and fittings are painted or stripped auxiliary blue, or in accordance with ISO 14726, at 5 m (15 feet) intervals on each side of partitions, decks, and bulkheads in all spaces, except where the decor would be marred by such markings.

Site: Potable Water-
Violation: The connections to the potable water at the hose connections in the engine room and whirlpool spa and pool rooms were not listed in the comprehensive cross-connection control program.
Recommendation: Ensure that all cross-connections to the potable water system are listed.

Violation: The potable water line supplying the hose connection at the crew whirlpool technical area was not fitted with a backflow prevention device.
Recommendation: Ensure that backflow preventers are installed when air gaps are impractical or when water under pressure is required.

Site: Whirlpool/Spa-
Violation: A standard precautions and risks sign was not posted at the crew whirlpool. This was corrected.
Recommendation: Ensure that a sign is installed near the whirlpool spas that lists standard safety precautions and risks, warning against use by particularly susceptible people, such as those who are immunocompromised.

Site: Whirlpool/Spa-
Violation: The three drain covers were missing at the deck 9 forward whirlpool. The whirlpool was open. The drain cover was missing at the deck 9 aft whirlpool. This whirlpool was open. The drain covers were replaced.
Recommendation: Ensure that anti-entrapment drain covers or other drains that prevent entrapment hazards as specified in U.S. Consumer Product Safety Publication 363-009801 (dual drains/channel drains) are provided on swimming pools and whirlpool spas. Ensure that drain covers have either the plumbing/engineering approving organization stamp and flow rate affixed to the cover, or that a letter is maintained aboard the vessel certifying that the cover meets the safety requirements outlined in AMSE/ANSI A112.19.8M or an equivalent standard.

Site: Whirlpool/Spa-Whirlpools Spas and Swimming Pools
Violation: The print dates for the halogen and pH trends readings did not always correspond with the dates of operation. Most of the printouts were dated with both the print date and the operation dates. However, some of the operation dates were not written on the printout and in some cases the print date was not the operation date.
Recommendation: Ensure that the date of operation is written on the printout.

Site: Preparation Room-Potato Peelers
Violation: There were slotted fasteners inside the food contact area of both potato peelers, making cleaning difficult.
Recommendation: Replace slotted fasteners with smooth, low profile, corrosion resistant fasteners.

Site: Galley-Crew and Main
Violation: The Devcon dual putty used on the back plate of the slicers was not approved for food contact.
Recommendation: Ensure that the sealants used on the food contact surfaces are approved for said use.

Site: Galley-Dishwash
Violation: The final rinse temperature digital display read 227° F. The temperature at the plate surface was measured at 170° F. There was no steam coming from the final rinse spray nozzles.
Recommendation: Ensure that warewashing equipment is maintained in good repair and proper adjustment including: (1) Being maintained in a state of repair and condition that meets the standards of the materials, design, and construction of these guidelines; and (2) Maintaining water pressure, and water temperature measuring devices in good repair and ensuring their accuracy within the intended range of use.

Site: Preparation Room-
Violation: The maximum temperature at the handwash station was measured at 102° F thru the mixing valve.
Recommendation: Ensure that handwashing sinks are equipped to provide water at a temperature of at least 43°C (110°F) through a mixing valve or combination faucet. For handwash sinks with electronic sensors, where the user cannot make temperature adjustments, ensure that the temperature provided to the user does not exceed 52°C (125°F).

Site: Provisions-Liquor Stores
Violation: 18 small canisters of carbon dioxide were being stored on the deck, making cleaning difficult.
Recommendation: Ensure items are not stored on the deck.

Site: Galley-
Violation: There was recessed and missing grout in the areas around the deep fryers and the soup kettles, making cleaning difficult.
Recommendation: Ensure that decks, bulkheads, and deckheads in food preparation, warewashing, pantries, and storage areas are constructed and maintained for easy cleaning.

Site: Integrated Pest Management-
Violation: The inventory manager was keeping a list of pest inspections for food deliveries. There were no records of pest inspections for non-food deliveries. Additionally, the listing of pest inspections for the food deliveries were for specific food items but did not cover all of the food items delivered such as deliveries of beverages, meats, seafood, produce and other items.
Recommendation: Ensure that incoming shipments of food and supplies are routinely inspected for evidence of insects, rodents, and other pests. A record of these inspections shall be maintained onboard the vessel and shall be available for review during inspections.

Site: Housekeeping-
Violation: The frequency for disinfecting surfaces in crew public areas was not in the outbreak prevention and response plan.
Recommendation: Ensure that the frequency of disinfedtion is in the plan.

Site: Children Area-
Violation: The product that was said to be used as a disinfectant for toys did not appear to be a disinfectant for hard surfaces. The product used was "Babysteril".
Recommendation: Ensure that an appropriate disinfectant is used for the toys.
