OIA PRESS RELEASE

First Micronesian Plays in Major League Baseball

On August 18 the Guam Pacific Daily News reported that John Hattig, Jr. made history by becoming the first Micronesian to play in Major League Baseball.  Hattig, 26 years old, from Guam, plays for the Toronto Blue Jays.  He played third base in his first game against the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards on August 17.  He serves as a role model for all the aspiring ball players in the Pacific Region, starting with the Little League. Guam’s Baseball Federation Commissioner Mark Charfauros was ecstatic when he heard the news, “He’s basically put us on the map.”  For the entire PDN article, please go to http://www.guampdn.com.
