What We Are About

BEMRP Mission...

Strengthen the scientific theory and practice of managing Rocky Mountain ecosystems at the landscape level within the context of social, economic and ecological opportunities and constraints.

The Bitterroot Ecosystem Management Research Project (BEMRP), begun in October 1993, addresses the social, biophysical, and management challenges of applying ecosystem management principles on landscapes in the Northern Rockies. Land managers are entrusted to protect species and structural diversity on these landscapes while providing commodities and other benefits to the public.

BEMRP addresses these issues through a science-management partnership. Participants include scientists from the USDA Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station and The University of Montana, together with managers from the Bitterroot National Forest and Northern Region.
