Mayssa Sultan is Recipient of Fourth Annual Service Excellence Award!
Mayssa
Sultan, L.Ac, MPA received the 2008 American Pain Foundation Service
Excellence Award at a recent staff luncheon. This award, bearing the
name of its first recipient Carolyn Nuth, a long-time staff member, is
given every year to a staff person who displays exceptional compassion,
integrity and excellence in work.

APF Recognizes Outstanding Leadership and Advocacy Efforts Made in
Advancing Rights of People with Pain
View the Annual Celebration photos! APF
commemorated the outstanding efforts made to improve pain
management and treatment for the millions of
Americans who are living in chronic pain by hosting “Images &
Inspiration,” an Annual Celebration and Awards Dinner held in
October at the American Visionary Arts Museum
in Baltimore. A
slideshow highlighting selected art
submissions from the Pain and Creativity Exhibit was shown at
the celebration as well as a
video featuring artists, artwork and pain care advocates.
Archived Chat with Derek McGinnis, Amputee Advocate
The
chat with Derek McGinnis, the American Pain Foundation’s Amputee
Advocate discussed the importance of
exercise as part of your pain care plan. Derek is an Iraq War Veteran
who served in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman for 11 years. After being
involved in an IED explosion in Fallujah, Iraq and losing his leg above
the knee, Derek focused on physical exercise and triathlon training to
help him cope with the mental and physical stress associated with pain
during his recovery.

Pain Community Advisory Council Member Honored by National Publication
Rachel
Lozano, a three-time cancer survivor and member of the American Pain
Foundation’s Pain Community Advisory Council was recently named Glamour
Magazine’s 2008 Woman of Your Year and was honored at an awards ceremony
at Carnegie Hall in New York, NY.

Let's Talk Pain Coalition
APF
is pleased to collaborate with two other
leading pain organizations, the American Academy of Pain
Management and the American Society for Pain Management
Nursing, in the Let's Talk Pain Coalition, a
first of its kind to unite the perspectives of patients,
caregivers, and healthcare professionals. The core of this
work is to encourage people to talk more about pain,
listen actively and act in ways that improve care
for the millions of people who live with pain. A
new interactive website
provides visitors with comprehensive information and tools to
enhance the dialogue between those affected by pain and
healthcare professionals.
