Home > Experimental Forests > Long ValleyLong Valley Experimental ForestThe Long Valley Experimental Forest was established in 1936 as a counterpart to Fort Valley Experimental Forest, because it is on contrasting soils (limestone/sandstone derived as opposed to basalt-derived clay loam), and because it was representative of some of the best sites and stands of ponderosa pine on the Coconino and Sitgreaves National Forests.
