Excellence in Construction Safety Award

At the FAA Southwest Region's Annual Partnership Conference (March 11-12, 2008) , we will announce the first annual winner of the Excellence in Construction Safety Award . This is a new award category with an open nomination process to recognize improvement(s) and/or excellence in construction safety on an airport “above and beyond” FAA guidance.

FAA is seeking Nominations. Anyone in the Aviation community can submit a nomination. We encourage self-nomination. If you are an airport sponsor, state or local agency, aviation organization, or airport consultant, a great opportunity to highlight a project that help make an airport safer during construction in the Southwest Region.

Completed nomination forms must be received no later than close of business on February 19, 2008.
Send nominations to:
Ms. Faye Nedderman
FAA, ASW-604
Airports Division
Fort Worth, TX 76193-0600

Finalists will be notified by February 22, 2008. FAA will have a booth at the conference dedicated to Construction Safety at Airports. Finalists will display their project or innovation in the booth. Additional information will be provided to the finalists. Private companies that are finalists are welcome to display their company logo, business cards, etc. along with the display. The winner will be announced at the conference.

Since we are looking for innovative approaches, the award criteria are simple. We’re looking for something that exceeds FAA Advisory 15 0/5370-2E Operational Safety on Airports During Construction. All efforts that promote, improve and/or enhance operational safety on an airfield during construction will be considered. Any airside projects requiring a Construction Safety Plan and/or a Phasing/Transition Plan are excellent candidates worthy of nomination. The project does not have to be AIP or PFC funded.

A panel from the Southwest Region Airports Division will evaluate the nominations and recommend finalists and select the winner. The panel is comprised of a member of the staff from each of the following: Division Manager’s office, Safety and Standards Branch, Arkansas/Louisiana Airports Development Office, Louisiana/New Mexico Airports Development Office, and the Texas Airports Development Office.

If you have any questions, call Faye Nedderman at (817) 222-5656 or Glenn Boles at (817) 222- 5661
As you prepare for the 2008 construction season, please keep in mind that this is an annual award. You can send in 2008 nominations any time during 2008.
