NCI Issues Clinical Announcement for Preferred Method of Treatment for Advanced Ovarian Cancer Right Click to Download MP3 File Brief Description: Transcript: Trimble: The improvement in survival was at a minimum of 12 months, the most recent trial saw an improvement of 16 months improved survival. So based on the results of these three trials the NCI January 5th issued a Clinical Announcement recommending that doctors and patients with newly diagnosed ovarian cancer strongly considered the possibilities of some of the chemotherapy given directly into the abdominal cavity. Akinso: The clinical announcement to surgeons and other medical professionals who treat women with ovarian cancer was made with the support of six professional societies and advocacy groups. It coincides with publication in the New England Journal of Medicine of the results of a large clinical trial by Doctor Deborah Armstrong, medical oncologist and an associate professor at Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center in Baltimore, Md., and her colleagues in an NCI-supported research network known as the Gynecologic Oncology Group.
