News

NOAA's National Ocean Service (NOS) is involved in many events of interest to the public. Some, like large oil spills, recovery of the Civil War era USS Monitor, or marine mammal strandings, often make national headlines. Others, like predicting harmful algal blooms, designating no-take protected areas in national marine sanctuaries, or routine nautical charting and tide predictions, generate less national attention. But these activities and events still are important to coastal residents and visitors and those who depend on the coastal environment for their livelihood. This section offers four types of news reports on activities and events related to the mission of NOS.

Weekly News

Each week, there are many interesting developments throughout NOS that reflect the diversity of its mission. Read news capsules in this section to keep tabs on news in ocean and coastal science and technolgy related to NOS.

Press Releases

NOAA issues many press releases each week. Releases pertinent to NOS are presented here.
