Our Work

Here at the Center, we believe that the key to maintaining and improving the quality of our valuable water resources is to minimize the collective impacts of urbanization and other land use changes at the local watershed scale.

This goal is accomplished through:

Partnering with Watershed Groups
We work directly with these small watershed organizations on the technical and organizational aspects of watershed management.  We partner with groups to draft grants for watershed assessments, to evaluate regulations and programs, to craft management strategies, or provide other watershed services.

Making Regulatory Updates and Conducting Program Reviews
We revise environmental regulations, update development codes, or evaluate local programs for communities.

Providing Stormwater Services
From stormwater BMP manuals, to retrofit design, to local program development, we have extensive experience in working with state and local governments on stormwater issues.

Distill Research into Practical Tools
We translate research on the latest watershed technologies, trends, and successes into on-the-ground tools for practitioners.

Offer Watershed Assessment and Planning
We assist in with mapping analysis, baseline characterizations, field assessments, regulatory audits, pollutant load modeling, and comprehensive watershed plan development.

Train Others to Manage Watersheds
We provide tailored workshops, weeklong Institutes, and speaking engagements designed to teach local planners, engineers, and watershed groups the technical skills they need to manage watersheds effectively.

CWP Projects
Location of Center projects (plus HI, PR, Guam, USVI, and Ontario)

These complementary components of our work allow us to advance innovative and effective watershed practices, field test our methods, and teach others how to implement these techniques in their own watershed.
