Combining Multi-Layered Bitmap Files Using Network-Specific Hardware

Abstract
LANL's Network Processor Unit (NPU) technology combines multi-layered bitmap files using network-specific hardware. It is a hardware assisted, lossless, highly scalable, high-frame-rate solution that reduces bottlenecks and enhances network application throughput. The invention is particularly powerful due to a wide variety of algorithm implementations. The flexibility is unique and allows wide application across many fields. The NPU technology offers order-of-magnitude processing improvements over current graphics composition tools.

Application(s)
• Medical imaging and modeling
• Industrial controls
• Telecommunications
• Military/defense
• Geoscience and remote sensing
• Astrophotography
• Architectural design
• Weather modeling and prediction
• Bio-informatics
• Visual and special effect processing
• Video game graphics

Advantages
• Programmable architecture
• Highly-scalable
• High-frame-rate solution
• Leverages off-the-shelf equipment
• Faster rendering
• Lossless data compression

IP Status: Available both Exclusively and Non Exclusively

Commercialization Strategy: We are seeking to license this technology either non-exclusively or exclusively for specific field of use. We would also entertain offers to work collaboratively in the form of Cooperative Research & Development Agreements (CRADA). Any agreement contract is expected to include funds-in to the Laboratory.
