Comments Old World macaque monkeys (rhesus and cynomologus monkeys) are the natural hosts for this virus. In monkeys, the effects of B-virus infection are minimal, e.g., oral ulcerations. B-virus infection is an occupational hazard for workers who handle macaque monkeys (bites, scratches, or eye exposure from fomites). Approximately 40-50 human B-virus infections have been reported in the world's medical literature with a case-fatality rate of about 70%. [CCDM, p. 272]
