    Dolores Arjona, is a fellow from Spain at NCI. Her younger sister Rocío, 24, studies biology and dreams of becoming a scientist some day but she has acute lymphoblastic leukemia, this is her second relapse. A matched donor is her best hope and there are only 3 months to find him/her. The NIH Marrow Donor Program is helping them. Together they are working to add donors to the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP).     Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, will present "Beating the Odds: Preparing Minorities for Research Careers in the Biomedical Sciences" at noon in Masur Auditorium. Dr. Hrabowski is President of UMBC and Co-Founder of the Meyerhoff Scholarship Program, which been hailed as one of the more successful programs for generating doctoral-level, minority research scientists.

    The NIH’s new Transformative R01 Program (T-R01s) will allow highly creative, "out-of-the-box" projects to be supported. The T-R01 Program represents a High Risk/High Reward Demonstration Project in which novel approaches to peer review and program management are to be piloted. The application submission period is from December 29, 2008 to January 29, 2009.

  • 10/20/2008: Relief for Victims of Hurricanes Gustav and Ike
    In response to the damage caused by Hurricanes Gustav and Ike, OPM has authorized the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) to begin distributing contributions made by cash or check to designated organizations supporting the relief efforts. A list of designated organizations is available. Contributions made by cash or check that are received and processed before November 18, 2008 will be distributed no later than November 21, 2008.

  • 4/30/2008: Visit NIH’s Newest Website and discover the new HHS ID badge.
    On April 21, 2008 the new site went “live” to keep NIH up to date on the implementation of a 2004 Presidential directive mandating all Federal agencies to use a common ID badge. The new badge will replace the NIH badge currently used by all NIH employees and contractors and is part of a comprehensive Personal Identity Verification process to protect Federal buildings, property, individuals, IT systems and data.
